For people who take stronger pain meds: How does Diludid compare with others?

What has worked the best with the least side effects? How long does it take to wear off? What would you recommend for a good strong pain reliever? I've just been prescribed Dilidud, but it is making me a bit sick to my stomach. Oh, and I've tried Oxcotin before, it pretty much knocked out the pain, but it knocked me out, too. I have a kid and can't be that out of it all the time. What do you suggest?
