Enlarged or more follicles on ovaries; more difficult to conceive?

I had a routine pap smear, but there was sensitivity on my left side so the doctor ordered an ultrasound. She went over the results with me and said there were follicles on my ovaries that were bigger/more than usual. I asked if that meant I could have released more eggs than usual and she said that it would be quite the opposite. If anyone can explain this more to me, I would appreciate it. I already talked to the doctor and she explained it as best she could but I just basically asked what they were and what it meant.
